SEP TALKS Carouge #1: John McCarthy
Posted on April 07 2023
🌟John McCarthy’s life itself reads like a novel. An expert and aficionado of the Middle East, he shares his passion for the Arabic language and culture during the first 2023 Geneva SEP TALK.
We discussed his rich life from the “Golden Age” of Lebanon in the late 1960s-mid 70s up to the time civil war broke out in 1975. We learnt about the inspiration behind his 3-volume series, written in Arabic, Hanna’s Diaries: Coming of Age in the Land of the Cedars. A youthful story about a teenager allowing you to experience for the first time or to relive impressions of a Lebanon that once was… and one which many still cherish and yearn to see again.
