Hind's kids by Hani Abbas. All rights reserved, Hani Abbas for SEP, April 2016.

Hind is 33 years old, she has been married for the past 15 years. 9 of those 15 years were spent undergoing fertility treatment which took a huge toll on Hind and her husband on all fronts: physically, emotionally, and financially. Time and time again, they got impatient, they grew tired, and they became very frustrated with themselves, with each other, and with the entire situation. A few times, they almost gave up.

Nevertheless, Hind tried to be the strong pillar of her family; she pushed through the resentment and frustration phases and tried to maintain a feeling of optimism and projected that onto her husband. Most times it worked and the couple was able to keep trying. For 9 years, this was their life, “It was like a cycle” Hind said.

Hind remembers the moment it was confirmed she was indeed pregnant, “My husband and I rejoiced” she said, recalling the fond memory as she smiled. Hind has received the good news three more times after that, with each pregnancy bringing her almost as much joy as that first time ... well maybe not just quite.

When asked about her dreams, Hind said her biggest dream has been realized, as she has her four beautiful children around her. All of Hind's dreams now revolve around her kids. Because she never got the chance to go to school, Hind now ensures that all four of her children are receiving the education they have the right to. Since starting to work with SEP, Hind has even been able to pay for private tutors for her kids. Firm in her belief that education will be her children’s weapon, Hind is not satisfied with them just going to school, she wants them to excel

What SEP says about Hind: Not having worked in embroidery for several years prior to joining SEP, Hind has put enormous efforts into becoming one of SEP’s trusted artisans. She has come a long way since she started, mostly due to her positivity, openness to constructive criticism, and her appetite to learn. She has worked very hard to be where she is and by doing so, has gained the love and respect of her fellow artisans as well as the SEP management.
